I first met Michelle & Remus at Sarah and Ben’s wedding, and they casually asked if I’d be interested in shooting their big day at a fort on a dramatic peninsula on the coast of Wales that they’d just booked. "YES" was the instant answer, and it turns out Fort Belan was every bit as epic as it sounds.

Positioned right on the edge of the Menai Strait with Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) standing tall in the background, the Georgian fortress provided the perfect setting for their DIY, festival-style weekend. Matching Michelle and Remus’s own interests, many of their guests were keen climbers and outdoor-adventure lovers, who pitched tents and campervans around the grounds. Rather fittingly the day kicked off early with a brave group heading down to the beach for a sunrise sea swim.

Everything about the morning was relaxed and low-key. Their outdoor ceremony was beautifully led by Emily the Celebrant and was packed with personality such as group singalongs, a quick coin flip to decide who said their vows first, and an intense game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to choose who got to hand over the rings.

Once the knot was tied, the celebrations kicked into high gear with a round of the newlywed’s favourite drink; freshly made margaritas. Following some brilliant, candid speeches, the bride slipped into the shiniest evening disco jumpsuit I’ve ever seen, just in time for some evening portraits and a dance flash mob. The night was filled with a chaotic, high-energy ceilidh followed by DJs who led this climbing crew to rave well into the early hours.

Here’s a snapshot of how their coastal weekend unfurled...
