I’ve mentioned before that I love it when couples do their wedding their way and Sarah and Ben definitely ticked that box.

Both are accomplished runners and climbers so their day was always going to involve the great outdoors, which is why at 8am at Wheeldon Trees, I joined them and a number of their guests as they set off on a wedding morning fell race over the Peak District Countryside. In the rain. They were all smiles when they got back though and, once warmed up, the smiles continued throughout the morning preparations.

Groom, Ben, and guests stayed at Wheeldon getting ready at the cottages, so Bride, Sarah, travelled to Hathersage to get ready in at her Mum and Dad’s house just over the road from the footpath that wanders up to their ceremony location of Hathersage Church. This footpath has two options; an easy going gravel path, and the other straight up a field with Stanage Edge in the background and Sarah was always going to take the latter. It just meant a quick change of footwear at the church door.

The ceremony was followed by a very long confetti line and then the couple were off back over to Wheeldon with the roof down on the wedding car. I caught up with them on the way and we found a couple of fields up on the tops for some sunshine and smile filled photos.

Once the couple and guests had arrived back at Wheeldon Trees it was into the marquee for arrival drinks, congratulations and speeches before the tables were moved to one side for the ceilidh.

When I’d first chatted to Sarah and Ben they had mentioned nipping up to the Trig point of High Wheeldon which is next to the venue to catch the sunset. So in a break in the dancing we set off up the hill and caught the best one of the year. I’m sure they’d of headed up even if I wasn't there and the site of them running off back down in their wedding attire still makes me grin.
